A turning point in our history
News Update
Our Careers website now includes details of vacancies across Abbey, Bradford and Bingley and Alliance and Leicester. Use ’Search for Jobs at Santander’ to see vacancies across these organisations.
Abbey is more than just one of the UK’s leading personal financial services organisations; now, we are also part of Grupo Santander, the world’s ninth largest bank, serving 63 million customers in 40 countries.
Becoming part of Santander was a defining moment for Abbey. Why? Because it gives us the experience, expertise and resources to transform the business and become Britain’s best bank.
This means a bank that helps people get on top of their money, cuts through the jargon and takes the mystery out of finance. A bank that takes the trouble to find out exactly what customers want and creates products they want to buy. A bank that gives good advice based on what’s right for the individual.
Of course, becoming number one will be a major challenge – and everyone here will have a part to play. That includes you if you’re thinking about joining us.
We need people who can really make things happen for our customers. People who talk in everyday language, who are creative, flexible and open, and who do the right thing for every customer they deal with.
You might think we’re expecting a lot. You’d be right. But in return we’ll make Santander a place you’ll love to stay and be proud to be a part of.
Down to earth
We have industry-leading products covering the full spectrum of personal finance, not to mention technology that´s unrivalled in banking. But what really sets us apart is the way we put our 18 million customers at the centre of everything we do.
For a start, we don´t use bank speak. Our customers live in the real world, and they don´t want to be talked to by an institution.
We´re also open with everyone. Just as we don´t want to stand between customers and their cash, we won´t stand between people and their good ideas either. Apart from the regulations we have to follow as a bank, very little about us is set in stone. So if you´ve got ideas about how we can do things better that´s great.
What’s in it for you?
We’ve been up front about changes we’re making and our plans for the future – we’ll want you to be the same. We’ll want to know about your skills and experience, and whether you can understand your customers and work with your colleagues to deliver what they really need.
The things that matter to us are what you deliver and how you deliver it. Just as important is your development plan, because it makes sure you have the skills and knowledge to support both.
You’ll be responsible for what you do and for your own development. Your manager will make sure you know how to do your best and help you achieve it. You’ll have regular meetings with your manager to discuss your progress and review your objectives. And you’ll be given a rating according to your performance for the year.
Your salary
Of course, we’ll reward you with a competitive base salary. We decide salary ranges based on the market rate for the job. People get paid within the range according to their capability, experience and potential.
Santander Performance Bonus
You may get some extra cash from the performance bonus. The Board decides how much will be paid taking into account how you, your division and Santander have done over the year.
